LEITH WALK \ Edinburgh
Student Accommodation, Affordable Housing, Build to Rent
Focussing on active travel, sustainability, affordable housing, and regenerating an industrial site on a newly constructed tram corridor
Manson coordinated the design and planning of the mixed-use scheme off Leith Walk and helped shape the Council’s Leith Walk / Halmyre Street Place Brief.
The design focuses on enhancing the permeability from Leith Walk to Easter Road by encouraging active travel and reducing car usage to create a safe, sustainable, and active urban environment. Edinburgh’s tram line extension is immediately adjacent to the site and will connect Leith to the city centre and beyond. The site is in a highly accessible location and the development will bring new life to an underutilised brownfield site.
The site is rich with industrial heritage and drives a bohemian character into the building and landscape design. The industrial nature of the site lends itself to creating a combination of hard landscaped civic spaces and open parklets, introducing a significant increase in biodiversity and variety of meeting places.
Manson are proud to be working on the project and to deliver the scheme in 2024, in time for the completion of the tram line.
